The 30-day tourism exemption has been live since Monday 15 September 2026. Overstay remains 500 baht a day, capped at 20,000 baht, per Immigration Division 1. The Prime Minister's Office Regulation on Deportation B.E. 2569 has been in force since 28 August. Anutin's instruction to governors, with emphasis on Phuket and Surat Thani, was issued Thursday 17 September.
Phuket — A Thai visa overstay used to be a sleepy airport queue: you paid cash, took a receipt, and flew. That receipt still exists. What changed this week is the clock behind it. Arrivals from Monday get 30 days, not 60. One 1,900-baht TM.7 extension can add another 30. After that, the date written in the passport is the last legal morning you have. Why a 30-day visitor stamp fails at the counter

If the date is inside the next ten days, go for the 1,900-baht extension first. Confirm the TM30 with the landlord before you queue. Cash in baht. Do not argue purpose if you have been working; that conversation belongs at an embassy, not at a tourist desk.
If you are already over, do not wait for a checkpoint raid to discover it. The published path is to surrender at departure, pay the daily fine, and leave. That is still the cheapest overstay outcome under 90 days. Sitting in a condo hoping the database has not noticed is how people meet the arrest table instead of the cashier.
